POLICE were called when a three-way family feud in the village of Chipping ended in bloodshed.

Village bobby Tom Treacey arrived at the home of Lloyd James Rowlinson to find him sitting on the front wall covered in blood.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Rowlinson told the officer to keep his nose out of the dispute that had involved his mother and brother.

Rowlinson, 19, of Kirkfield, Chipping, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and was fined £160 with £40 costs.

Wendy Shackleton, prosecuting, said PC Treacey had been called by Rowlinson's mother who said that she and her two sons had all been fighting with each other.

PC Treacey had to push Rowlinson away when he lunged at the officer and at Mrs Rowlinson.

She was told to go back in the house and Rowlinson screamed after her saying he would kill her when he got in the house.

The officer drew his CS spray and warned Rowlinson that he would use it if necessary.

He appeared to calm down but then lunged at the officer who drew his baton and hit him on the leg before arresting him.

Ian Holland, defending, said Rowlinson, a steel erector, was very embarrassed about appearing in court.

"He is back living with his mother and can only put his behaviour down to excessive alcohol," said Mr Holland.
