MOST of the foals being born to the 75,000 mares used in the production of HRT drug Premarin will not see their first birthday.

Each year, tens of thousands of horses are impregnated and tied in tiny stalls, similar to veal crates, constantly irritated by the rubber sacks around their groins used to collect their oestrogen-rich urine for the hormone replacement drug Premarin. The foals are unwanted industry by-products and will soon be shipped to auctions. Most will probably be killed for dinner tables in Europe and Japan.

Natural remedies, as well as synthetic alternatives, to Premarin are widely available, so there is no need for this cruel, antiquated industry.
