ON returning from holiday this week, I read what I consider to be totally untrue statement in your newspaper (Citizen May 13).

An article about the elections stated 'Coun Dorothy Stewart, who has 25 years service on the council, was beaten by the Liberal Democrats, along with Ron Smith. Coun Stewart stormed out of the counting hall as the result was announced'.

This is an untrue and demeaning statement.

I left the hall to phone my family to inform them of the result, returning after using my mobile phone in the corridor.

I was interviewed on my return by a reporter.

I remained in the hall for some considerable time after the results were announced.

I therefore ask for an apology to be published in your paper.

Dorothy Stewart

Ex-councillor, Howick ward

WHILE we are sorry if our report caused you offence, Mrs Stewart, I am confident our report is a fair representation of the evening's events - Ed.
