The former Clitheroe player was on course for a place on the leaderboard until two double-bogies wrecked his score-card in the opening round.
The European Challenge Tour player had birdies on the fourth and the eighth to get to the turn in 35.
But he couldn't sustain that form on the back nine where a bogey and two double bogies eventually saw him card a four-over-par round of 76.
