AN angry mum living near an 'eyesore' playground in Leyland has attacked council plans to pump a massive £60,000 into improving other recreation areas across the borough.

Mother-of-six Diane Nuttall, pictured, has vowed to fight for better recreational facilities for the children living on the Wade Hall Estate, where the playground has just a few swings.

Diane, of Kingsway, says she is 'disgusted ' with South Ribble Council's proposal to earmark cash to develop several playgrounds.

These include Bent Lane and Bowbrook Road, in Leyland, Hutton Playing Field (in conjunction with Hutton Parish Council) and Dob Lane, Little Hoole.

Private developers have also pledged to upgrade two other playgrounds, providing safer surfacing and new equipment. While other playgrounds have been developed including Seven Stars Road and Peacock Hall Road, the council has no plans to modernise the site at the bottom of Queensway, on Wade Hall.

Diane said: "I'm disgusted. They are trying to make this estate a better place by improving the houses but there are no facilities for the children. There are only four swings which the older children just wind up around the bars because there's nothing for them to do.

"It's about time they put modern facilities up as well as an area where the lads can play football."

Chairman of the council's Recreation and Amenities Committee, councillor Alan Dawson, said: "We intended to put something in Queensway 18 months ago but, after petitioning residents in the immediate vicinity, we were told that they did not want anything there. But I am willing to revisit the situation and people can contact me with their views."
