IN a to and fro encounter, Fylde League division 2 leaders Taverners on 110 were pushed close by a rousing last wicket stand of 33 between Nigel Connolly (32) and skipper Tim Rawstron (17 not out) as St Annes IV finished on 88.

Of the earlier batting, only Duncan Webb with 18 stood out.

A sharp opening spell form Nigel Connolly (4-45) reduced Taverners to 32 for 5 before an astonishing blast from Simon Boothroy (68) lauched a recovery.

Dave Gamble (3-50) Webb (3-11) offered staunch support and keeper John Dougall pouched three catches.
