I WRITE in support of the concerns expressed by "Fed Up Bowler" and "Elton Pensioner" (Your Letters, June 11) about the goings-on in Whitehead Park, Bury.

On Friday, about 8pm, I took my two young children to the playground and I was verbally abused by some drunken teenagers near the bowling green. It was very frightening; there must have been more than 40 of them.

I agree with both your correspondents, the park is becoming a no-go area for people who just want to enjoy a stroll. Anyway, I thought under-age drinking was against the law - or is it allowed in parks!

I would ask whoever is in charge to do something about the problem before the general public stop gong to parks altogether for fear of their safety.

B. LOWE, Stephen Street, Bury.
