NEWTON Hall Amateur Swimming Club triathletes and biathletes excelled at the annual Warrington meet.

Despite atrocious conditions, Newton Hall came away with 23 triathlon and 13 biathlon trophies at individual level together with eight triathlon and eight biathlon team medals.

In the individual disciplines, fastest swims were awarded to Alex Booth, Lewis Jones, Shirley Coward and best shots to Clair Crawford, Stacey Hunter Val Karapiperis and Colin Hunter.

Meanwhile at Liverpool, the Micro A swim team competed against Metropolitan teams from Stockport, Wirral, Liverpool and Chester.

Although finishing fourth with 98 points to Chester's 112, Wirral's 183 and Stockport 186, great wins were achieved by the nine-year-old boys freestyle and individual medley relay team.

The next day a stronger squad won the latest North West Micro Gala by beating Blackburn, Blackpool and Clitheroe.

Individual wins by Leanne Bonney, Lewis Jones, Kyle Colino, Andrew Holgson, Holly Jones, Janette Rogerson, Oliver Roberts, Kathryn Whitley, Anna Brigden, Mitchell Blakemore, Emma Seddon, Melissa Taylor and Karen Skelly, along with good relay wins, ensured a comfortable win.

The Sub League B team for swimmers aged 12 and over proved a little tougher when they were pipped by Leyland by 125 to 102, with Kirkham third on 62 points.

Individual wins by Zak Colino, Colin Gyte, Andrew Oddy, Leanne Bonney, Katherine Boardman, Ross Hodson, Debra Hillier and James Godwin kept Leyland at full stretch.

They did much better in the next gala, beating Kirkham by 109 points to 102 with Blackburn coming third on 86 points.

Elizabeth Booth, Andrew Oddy, Katherine Boardman (twice), Zak Colino, Colin Gyte and Leanne Bonney all won individual events.

Winning four relays events, Newton Hall just had the edge.
