ENERGY efficient pupils at Fleetwood High School have been awarded a green grant to cut their school's fuel bills.
The award has been made from the School Energy Programme - a nationwide project run by the Energy Saving Trust, funded by British Gas and the Department of environment, transport and regions.
The £574 grant is half the sum the school needs to raise to become energy efficient by fitting flow taps, improving the hot water system and appointing six energy monitors, with the school required to raise the remaining amount.
And on hand to join in the celebrations was British Gas Powersaver mascot Saver and Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Joan Humble.
Joan, who met the school's project co-ordinator Shaun MacNeil, said: "I'm delighted to be able to congratulate all the staff and pupils at Fleetwood for their involvement in this worthwhile scheme.
"Awareness in saving energy is extremely important and is something which will stay with these children throughout their lives."
Collette Handley from British Gas said: "On average UK schools spend three times as much on energy as they do on books, so we're very pleased Fleetwood High School is helping the environment."
