RAINHILL second team batted their way to an emphatic win at Mossley Hill on Saturday.

The home side declared on a formidable score of 200-4 off only 35.4 overs. Mossley Hill tore Rainhill's bowling apart with D. Fanning knocking up 61 not out and S. Wallis also unbeaten on 52.

However, after losing five wickets for 106, Rainhill responded positively with Dave Hawkins compiling a score of 81 and another Captain's innings from Phil Atherton, blasting a hard hitting 65. to finish on 201-5, a 95 run partnership to take a well earned 20 points, so taking Rainhill 2nd's off the bottom of the Merseyside Competition.

Meanwhile, the Rainhill Sunday XI were left hanging on for a draw at home to Chorlton Wayfarers.

Chorlton batted first and declared on 161 for 8 off 40 overs. Danny Sherratt 2-42 off 12, Andy Birkett 2-38 off 10 and 2 great catches, and Under 15 Michael Dooling taking 1-8.

In reply in form Mike Rotheram scored a dashing 53, but Steve Palmer was the star batsman in frustrating the bowlers for almost an hour with an unbeaten 17 to hang on for a draw at 100 for 9.
