WHAT a difference a week makes . . .

Haresfinch went from bottom of the St Helens Rounders League's second division, to fourth after winning two games in seven days.

First they won 17-17 in a gripping match at Sutton. Then won 17-16 at home to United Gladiators.

It was a welcome return for Pilkington Spartans' Joan Harrison who was able to add her 2 rounders to Spartans score of 23. UG notched up a score of 13 with mother and daughter Kay and Christina Dillon adding a rounder by Kay and half by Christina.

Spartans, however, took the match easily, with rounders from Sandra Moore (3), Jean Thompson, Janet Mayer and Ann Martin.

Haydock also had reason to celebrate after defeating Pilkington Vikings 5-6. Vikings were in their usual excellent hitting form, but Haydock's tight fielding kept the scoring low. Accurate throwing by backstop Cath Cross to first post Sharon Walker also played a key part. Having to score to win, Kelly Nolan went for it, and was rewarded with a match-winning rounder.

Other results: Burtonwood 13 Grasshoppers 3; Spartans 17 Haresfinch 7; Rainhill 6 Windle 8.
