A SPECTACULAR day of fun and festivities is lined up for the Famous Accrington Carnival tomorrow.

The biennial event, organised by Accrington Lions and sponsored by the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, will start with a procession and continue with a dazzling array of field events.

Kosovar children who are staying at Calderstones Hospital in the Ribble Valley will join the procession.

Also in the line-up will be Hyndburn mayor and mayoress Coun Bernard Dawson and Frances Molloy, Carnival Queen Claire Calverley and Carnival Princess Lauren Johnson.

The mayor will judge the best floats from more than 20 before the parade wends its way through the town centre.

Entertainment will include the Darwen Kung Fu School Chinese dragon, three majorette groups from Hyndburn and six groups including brass and marching bands.

The fun will then move on to the carnival field in Sandy Lane, Accrington, with activities for all ages.

A bungee jump team has been roped in with daredevils leaping from a 200ft crane for

harity.

A fun fair, paintball range, jousting tournament, kick boxing and gymnastics displays and an Army recruitment exhibition will add to the atmosphere.

The sound of Asian music will fill the air for a 'mela' event featuring singing and dancing.

More than 3,000 programmes will be handed out and visitors will have the chance to win £500 in a grand raffle.

Blackburn Road in Accrington will be closed between 11am and 1pm for the procession.
