MYSTERY surrounds the whereabouts of the Greenmount Cricket Club flag believed to have been stolen from the club's Brandlesholme Road ground on or around Saturday, June 5.

In a bid to recover the flag, club members have offered the thief an amnesty period.

Mrs Helen Bowker, membership secretary, said: "If the flag could be returned anonymously within the next couple of weeks and left on the members' bar doorstep we will be absolutely delighted.

"We have to generate our own money. A new flag would cost us in the region of £70 plus VAT."

The flag is green with the letters GMCC in gold on it.

Helen's husband and club member Peter added: "The flag has obviously been stolen because it has been untied, wound down and pulled loose. This is not an easy task but the culprits obviously managed it."
