A MEETING of the Bury North Police and Community Consultative Group at Greenhill CP School was cancelled on Wednesday when not one member of the public turned up.
Chairman Mrs Val McGrory commented: "I am very disappointed. I cannot believe that everyone in the town is happy with the police and does not have any problems with crime."
Meetings are held monthly, giving the public a chance to meet police officers and discuss their concerns on policing issues.
"The police who come to the meeting are giving up their own time to attend," said Mrs McGrory.
Mr Derek Burke, of Greater Manchester Police Authority, said the meetings were very important to democracy, providing a forum for views and bringing problems to the notice of police so that they could deal with them. He urged members of the public to join the mailing list which provides information about consultative groups and the dates and venues of meetings.
For information, phone Mr Burke on 0161 252 6889 or 0161 793 3128.
