A PENSIONER woke up in the early hours to find herself face-to-face with an intruder.

The 78-year-old was disturbed by noises in her home in Woburn Avenue, Newton-le-Willows at about 3.30am on Tuesday, June 8. And when she got up to check she came across a man in a woollen hat trying to get in through a window.

The pensioner challenged the man and he backed out of the window and fled empty-handed leaving the woman frightened and shaken. The intruder was white, aged between 18 and 30 years and clean shaven.
