THE trip of a lifetime awaits Leigh golfing amateur Alan Mitchell.
If he and his partner, 26-year-old Poulton Park PGA pro Darren Newing, come through the next stage of Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the Lombard Trophy, later this month they're on their way to the Algarve.
Alan, a retired 64-year-old, took his first big step towards the luxury five-day trip in Portugal, when he won his club qualifying round in March with a net score of 67.
The pair will now take part in the regional final at Northop Country Park on June 30 where they will play one round of better-ball medal play. The winners of 18 regional finals throughout Britain and Ireland will head for a luxury stay at San Loranzo from October 1-5.
Apart from golf, father of two Alan enjoys DIY and fishing.
He plays off a handicap of 19.
