LACEY the rough haired collie has triumphed over tragedy to become a champion show dog.
The five-year-old bitch, show name Champion Meskveil Melisande of Sunnyhurst, came close to death when she haemorrhaged after giving birth by Caesarean section to a litter of pups two years ago.
Her proud owners, Pauline and Alan Hayden, of Sudell Road, Darwen, pulled out all the stops to nurse the family pet back to health.
The prestigious title was given at the Southern Collie Show at Gatwick.
"Lacey had to have a full blood transfusion and despite this returned to top condition to become a champion," said Pauline.
"A rescue dog which was about to be put down helped save her life by donating blood."
The couple also have a champion Blue Merle smooth haired collie called Heidi and are thought to be only the second people in the country to own both rough and smooth haired champion bitches.
