A LARGE housing estate looks likely to be built off Livesey Branch Road and Slater Street, Blackburn, despite the objections of residents and businesses in the area.

Sixty six homes will be built, made up of 32 terrace, 26 semi detached and eight detached houses, if Blackburn with Darwen Council's planning committee follows the advice of planners.

The development site is made up of vacant land to the north of Livesey Branch Road and was last used as allotment gardens.

Permission has already been given in principle for developers Holden Homes to build new houses on the land.

But residents and local businesses have continued to voice their objections and want the project refused.

Householders from nearby Slater Street, Moorgate Street, Albion Street and Livesey Branch Road recently attended a public meeting with councillors. Many of the complaints brought up have since been tackled by the council working in conjunction with the developers.

These include:

How close the properties would be to existing homes, with house levels to the rear of Albion Street reduced so avoid intrusion on privacy.

Open areas will be included and a playground will be built.

The suitability of access arrangements.

Residents had sent a petition complaining that the construction of a roundabout on Livesey Branch Road, close to the new estate, will lead to serious safety problems for children and will leave residents with even less space to park in.

The planning committee will discuss the application on Thursday.
