DAVE Holden looks set to be a contender for the British Motorcycle Club's sidecar title after a double victory at Brands Hatch.

The Blackburn electrican trounced the opposition to win both eight-lap races at the Kent track on his Ireson Yamaha 700.

Partnered by Ben Birchall, from Mansfield, Holden also posted fastest lap of the day, averaging 94.67mph on the rarely-used Grand Prix circuit.

The two-day meeting attracted a top class field of sidecar racers, with no less than 140 reserves on the waiting list.

Despite minimal practice time - riders were allowed just three timed laps on Saturday, and five minutes warm-up on Sunday - the pair collected two second places on the opening day before being rammed off the track in the third race.

Luckily, both riders and machine escaped injury to dominate the two main races of the weekend.

The result moves Holden and Birchall up into fourth place in the championship with the next round at Mallory Park in two weeks.
