Everton Reserves 1 Blackburn Rovers Reserves 0

NATHAN Blake's penalty miss, shortly after Everton grabbed a second-half winner, summed up the night for Blackburn Rovers as they slipped to a disappointing FA Premier Reserve League defeat.

Rovers had by far the bulk of the possession and created plenty of first-half chances but, despite continuing to dominate after the break, the quality was lacking both in the final pass and the finishing.

They should have been ahead by the interval but were denied by the Everton keeper and their own lack of punch.

Everton only had a couple of genuine chances but took one of them some 10 minutes into the second half when Phil Jevons grabbed what proved to be the only goal of the night.

A few minutes later, Gary Hamilton was brought down, but Blake's penalty struck the crossbar.

"Our attitude was spot on and we dominated for most of the game," said coach Terry Darracott. "But, even though we played most of the second half in their half of the pitch, we didn't really create enough chances. It was a disappointing result, because we should have taken something from the game."

ROVERS: Fettis, Croft, Peacock, Taylor, Murphy (sub Richardson 75 mins), Corbett, Scates, Gill, O'Brien (sub Fitzpatrick 70 mins), Hamilton (sub Thomas 60 mins), Blake. Subs not used: McNamee, Bingham.
