ROSSENDALE'S dreams of FA Cup glory died in a Yorkshire replay last night and the Dark Lane men must be ruing their missed chances at the weekend.

But truthfully, in the second meeting they simply didn't do enough to win this first qualifying round tie.

United just shaded a first half which was a typical Cup encounter with the game flowingfrom end to end.

The visitors found themselves behind one minute into the second period when home striker Chris Annan was allowed to power through far too easily. A disappointing feature was that as a team, Rossendale was unable to lift their game when required and only John Borland and Jason Heffernan stood out.

There were also some strange refereeing decisions which undoubtedly didn't help the valley men's cause.

It was that man Annan who finally settled the tie when he notched a second goal.

As if to rub salt in the Dale wounds, Andy Grimshaw was unbelievably red-carded for what seemed an innocuous challenge, while play was allowed to flow when Borland felled while bearing down on goal.
