AN ANGRY dad, who carried out a frenzied attack on a man's car, has started a four month jail term.

Edward Fisher, 32, said to have smashed up a Ford Fiesta in retaliation after the owner had allegedly damaged his car, was told by Burnley magistrates he had a complete disregard for other people's property.

Fisher, of Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, admitted damaging property, on February 14.

Christiana Buchanan, prosecuting, said Fisher was seen with some sort of bar in his hand, smashing up the vehicle. He then picked up a holdall, put what appeared to be a bar in it, and rode off on a bike.

When officers went to search Fisher's home, they found a silver coloured metal bar with a ball on the end, with traces of paint on it. He said he knew the victim, but was not responsible for causing the damage. Fisher said the metal bar had been "dumped" there and he had been set up.

Nick Dearing, defending, said the damage was retaliation, but Fisher should not have taken the law into his own hands and sought vengeance in such a fashion. He had a very extensive record, but not the worst in the world. His offences were trivial but there were so many, the courts tended to lose patience with him.

Fisher had a lot of problems. He had suffered the breakdown of his relationship, two business ventures had failed and he had been in two road accidents, resulting in memory loss.

Mr Dearing said the defendant believed the police picked on him. He was stopped practically every day while in his vehicle.

Fisher was angry because somebody damaged his property. Mr Dearing went on: "The defendant was under a great deal of pressure, financial and emotional stress and cracked. He lost control.

"If he was sent to prison, he would lose his house, his son, everything he has tried to get together.

"There are better ways of dealing with him than sending him to prison."
