PRESTON-based Gethin Butler's ambitions to regain the British Best All-Rounder competition - which he last held in 1995 - were put on hold at the weekend when his opportunity to register a qualifying 100-mile performance was foiled when dense fog resulted in the cancellation of the potentially fast Middlesex and Hertfordshire Cycling Association promotion.
Gethin has already produced personal best 50-mile and 12 hour performances this year but he will have to wait until the final 100 mile event in Yorkshire on September 19 to complete his three qualifying distances.
This weekend, Gethin will revert to road racing for his Men's Health team when he rides in the long-established Tour of the Peak event in Derbyshire.
