KIERAN Carr celebrated his 21st Ben Nevis Race with a hard-earned victory over fellow Clayton Harrier Jack Holt in the over 50 class.
After the 10-mile race which saw the runners climb 4,400ft to the summit and return to Fort William, the two men were separated by less than 30 seconds, with Kieran clocking 1:50.07 in 4th position, and Jack 41st in 1:50.33.
Among the dozens of East Lancashire runners who made the long trek north for this classic event were Bev McWade and Dave Walker. Bev making her debut was the third lady home, 126th overall in 2:06.32, while Dave was first under 23, his time of 1:51.28 placing him 44th. Highest placed of the Clayton runners were Geoff Gough whose 28th put him third over 40, and Lee Thompson (35th).
Best Rossendale Harrier was Andrew Lee (69th).
Race winner Ian Holmes completed the distance in 1:28.14 ahead of Bingley team-mate Rob Jebb who won the prize for being first to the top. Mark Kinch in ninth completed the winning Bingley team.
