A BROUGHTON mother-of-four who played bingo to cheer herself up after an illness has scooped a jackpot of more than £57,000.

The 51-year-old woman, who does not want to be identified, has three daughters and a son.

She has been a member of the Buckingham Club almost since it opened nearly 30 year ago, and plays bingo there every Saturday.

She said: "You always think it happens to someone else, never to you.

"We have been at the bottom of the hill recently, but now we are pulling our way back up.

"My husband was born in our house and has been a farmer all his life, but we have had to give up dairy farming because it doesn't pay.

"However he now has a job as a wagon driver, and I am getting over my illness so this win is the icing of the cake."

The bingo club's duty manager Maureen Ellison said: "She was in total shock when she realised how much she had won.

"She was crying her eyes out and couldn't speak.

"We had to give her a brandy."
