CARLETON'S Laura Drury has a spring in her step after becoming the fastest sack racing schoolgirl in the country.

The 11-year-old, who attends Breck County Primary school, beat 20,000 other children from 300 schools nationwide to claim her place in Sunday's (September 5) final of the McCain Schools' Sack Race Competition.

And in the first national event of its kind Laura finished an impressive third behind David Buckley, of Hertfordshire, and James Gregson, of Llandudno.

For her efforts Laura won £200 of sports and computer vouchers to be split between herself and her school.

The final, hosted by children's TV personality Michaela Strachan, saw 25 local champions gather together for an exciting day's racing at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.

McCain marketing director Julie Levers said: "We want kids to appreciate sport is all about having fun.

"You don't have to be the strongest, or the fastest, as long as you're enjoying yourself."
