Forty per cent thought most Christmas presents would be bought over the internet, and 37 per cent believed a central computer will control domestic systems.

More than a third - 37 per cent - thought traditional Christmas cards would be replaced by e-mail.

And 57 per cent thought computer software would take over from traditional toys and games for Christmas presents.
