A NEW scheme to enable Ribble Valley residents to barter with each other is set to be launched.

Local Exchange and Trade Schemes (LETS) are already up and running in Burnley and other towns in the North West.

They work on a barter systems where people trade services and products for local currency.

A resident could swap a few jars of home made jam for a spot of decorating for example or a dog walking stint for a car repair.

People who register on the scheme get a 'cheque book' and their name in a directory which lists all the other traders in the scheme which is open to everyone in the Ribble Valley or surrounding areas.

A meeting to set up the scheme is being staged in the Council Chambers, Church Brow, Clitheroe on January 22 between 2pm and 4pm.
