COUNCIL chiefs in Burnley have finally got their man with the appointment of Nick Aves as director of finance - five years after they first offered him the job.
At that time Mr Aves, 47, a senior accountant with the council for 20 years, turned down the post, which went to Pam Williams.
There was no hesitation this time around when Mrs Williams left to become borough treasurer at Ellesmere Port and Neston.
Mr Aves applied for the job, was offered it and promptly said yes.
"I think it is going to be an interesting challenge said Mr Aves who qualified in accountancy in his native Cambridgeshire before joining Burnley in 1979.
"Last time I did not accept for a number of reasons but now I think the time is right."
Before becoming finance director, he was accountancy services manager with responsibility for budget management, final accounts and payroll and invoice payments.
