THE parents of hostage Paul Wells were today awaiting details of new Indian claims that a body exhumed three years ago in Kashmir is that of their son.

Indian police yesterday said new DNA tests confirmed the body was student Paul, kidnapped by Kashmiri rebels in July 1995.

But Paul's mother Diane, 56, said the family were still awaiting Foreign Office confirmation on the DNA tests.

Mrs Wells, of Feniscowles, said: "What we have been told today contradicts what we have been told before about the DNA tests. While we don't want this body to be Paul we would like to bring him home. We do not think Paul is alive."

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "Examination by British police forensic experts of dental remains provided by the Indians in March 1998 confirmed they were definitely not those of Paul Wells or Keith Mangan."
