THE city council's oldest member, Arthur Briggs, has been awarded the MBE for services to the council and the community.
Cllr Briggs is one of the oldest serving councillors in the country and was first elected 27 years ago.
He has also served on the Community Health Council, the Sport's Council, Citizens Advice Bureau and has worked for Cancer Research and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
He was deputy mayor of Lancaster in 1985 and the Right Worshipful Mayor between 1987 and 1988.
On hearing about his award Cllr Briggs said: "I am very, very pleased about the MBE."
