BRITAIN'S first woman Chief Constable eased herself into the hot-seat in charge of nearly 3,000 male police officers in Lancashire. Pauline Clare had previously been Deputy Chief Constable of Cheshire.The media wanted to know how she would deal with being number one in what was still seen as a man's world.
