I TAKE my hat off to Walt Meadows (Letters, June 5) -- he would make a brilliant propaganda writer for the Ministry of Information should the UK ever become involved in a future war.

However, his hysterical anti-Labour propaganda runs seriously off track when he slates Councillor Dave Smith for crowing about the Blackburn Labour group's successes in attracting money, both from central government and Europe, into the borough.

Darn right, Labour have a right to feel good. They are the best local authority outside of London for this sort of exercise.

Millions upon millions of pounds over the years have come into Blackburn, due entirely to the farsightedness and expertise of the Labour group.

I know Walt did not want to go into detail about Labour "filling its begging bowl from the public purse," but I thought I would help out.

EDDIE DUXBURY, Arthur Way, Blackburn.
