THE depressed owner of a Chinese takeaway slashed his throat and wrists before getting into a chest freezer to die, an inquest heard.

The body of Wing Chun Yeung was found after his 13-year-old daughter came home from school and saw blood in the premises on New Hall Lane, Preston.

An inquest heard that the 48-year-old man had been depressed due to his wife's death three years ago. He was said to drink quite a lot.

His daughter Kathy told the Preston hearing: "He had really been depressed quite a lot since my mother died. He was worse coming up to the time of his death."

The grim discovery was made by her 13-year-old sister. "She could not see my Dad, all she could see was blood," said Kathy: "She called an aunt who told her to look around the house. She found him."

Their father was found sat in a chest freezer in a kitchen area of his shop. Det Insp Charles Lemon said Mr Yeung had injuries to both wrists and neck. He added: "Despite all the investigation and tests we did, there is no evidence whatsoever of any third party involvement."

The cause of death was multiple wounds, caused by a sharp cutting instrument, said Home Office pathologist Dr Paul Johnson. He added: "He had also swallowed insecticide."

Recording a verdict that Mr Yeung killed himself, Coroner Howard McCann said: "There is no suggestion any other person was involved."
