ST ANNES recorded their third win of the season with a comfortable six wicket victory over Leyland at Vernon Road.

The home side recorded 112-4 against in reply to Leyland's 106.

Russ Bradley won the toss and put the visitors into bat. It opposed a prudent decision when opener, Ian McDonnell was run out for four, with the score on ten.

Leyland professional Neil Rimmer was trapped leg before wicket by Steven Twist for four which left Leyland 20-2.

Mark Swan and Neil Kenyon took the score onto 42 when Leyland lost two wickets.

Kenyon was caught by Joe Davies off Dave Callaghan for 15 and Chris Sim was leg before wicket to Callaghan without troubling the score.

Half the Leyland side were dismissed for 44 when Mark Pallett was caught by Russ Bradley off Callaghan for nought.

Leyland stumbled to 56-7 when Mark Swan was stumped by Neil Bickerdike off leg-spinner, John Cotton for 16.

Brian Tennant and Paul Haydock stopped the rot with a 38 runs partnership for the eighth wicket before Tennant was caught behind by Bickerdike off Twist for 17.

The ninth Leyland wicket fell at 102 when Haydock was bowled by Callaghan for 28. He battled 60 minutes, faced 49 balls and hit four fours.

Four runs later, Leyland were dismissed for 106 when Craig Dootson was bowled by Twist for a single. Dave Callaghan was the pick of the St Annes bowling attack, and took 5-41 from 18 overs.

He was ably supported by Steven Twist who took 3-41 from 13-3 overs.

Incidentally, Twist made his debut for Leicestershire Seconds against Yorkshire Seconds at Harrogate this week.

In reply, St Annes got off to a disasterous start when Andy Kellett was bowled by Paul Haydock for nought in the second over which left St. Annes 1-1.

Nevertheless, Adrian Darlington and Dave Callaghan added 48 for the second wicket before the latter was caught behind by Charlie Williams off Haydock for 35.

He batted 35 minutes, faced 28 balls and hit six fours.

Darlington and Twist took the score onto 90 when they were both dismissed.

Twist was caught by Steven Pallett off Tennant for 28 which he made in 29 minutes and hit four fours off 28 balls, while Darlington was bowled by Craig Dootson for 24.

Russ Bradley and Adam Cotton saw St. Annes through to victory and Bradley won the match with a six off Mark Swan.

Bradley was 7 not out, and Cotton 9 not out.

St Annes play hosts to the much improved Lancaster at Vernon Road next, but should record their fourth win of the season if they play to their full potential.
