BRINGING kudos to his college!

That's young entrepreneur and student Anthony Edmondson who has won a major national award to mark his commitment and ability to Team Enterprise.

For Anthony (19 ), who attends Bury College, has been presented with a coveted Sir John Moore award, funded by Lady Grantchester in St John's memory.

The award recognises the special achievements of young people involved in the Team Enterprise business scheme, part of the Young Enterprise initiative.

This allows senior school children and students to establish their own business and manufacture and market a range of goods.

Thanks to Anthony's drive and dedication, he was just one of eight award winners chosen from throughout the UK. The student lifted the regional prize at the West Pennine regional finals of the competition.

Earlier, Anthony was managing director of Bury College's Team Enterprise "Ocean Monkey" mini-company.

This business made a variety of items for sale, including mirrors, vases and key rings.

It was one of two groups set up at the college under the supervision of course tutor/co-ordinator Elaine Hopwood.

Anthony's prestigious award is in recognition of his exceptional progress and commitment to the programme.

It was presented to him by Jane Cooke, Team Enterprise manager.

She stressed the importance of the Team Enterprise scheme in developing self-esteem and business skills in the participants and also highlighted the hard work and enthusiasm of the tutors and achievers involved.

Mrs Hopwood has also paid tribute to Anthony's performance.

"As his link teacher, I feel he has shown exceptional commitment to the Team Enterprise course and has made excellent progress this year."
