SIMON BALDWIN will continue to play through the pain barrier -- but not this weekend.

He has been hampered in recent weeks by a groin problem and has been wrapped in cotton wool ahead of big games ahead.

Coach Paul Terzis said: "Simon has a hernia which will need surgery in the off-season. It has been hampering him a little so we've decided to pull him out of the clash with Lancashire Lynx so he can rest up.

"He is on an individual training programme which won't aggravate the injury and he is being closely monitored by the medical team.

"There's absolutely no danger of him missing any big games. What we're doing is purely precautionary."

Goalkicker Paul Wingfield, who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, is back in training but is unlikely to be risked this weekend.

Scrum-half Craig Dean is fit again after falling foul of a gastric bug that's claimed Alan Hadcroft, Alan Cross and Andy Fairclough in the last month.

There will be no sympathy from Leigh for the struggling Lynx who've conceded over 1200 points so far this season and have lost 20 successive league and cup matches.

"There's only one way to approach it," said Terzis. "That's to be totally ruthless.

"Whatever 17 players I turn out will be fully focused on what needs to be done. We've got to go out there and do a throughly professional job on them.

"One or two players might come into the squad and it's up to them to catch the eye and make me think about selection for the big games against Doncaster and Dewsbury that are coming up."
