THE wife of England football coach Derek Fazackerley today told how she beat airport chaos to watch England's Euro 2000 victory against Germany.
Christine Fazackerley, who lives with the former Blackburn Rovers coach in Langho, was among a party of families being flown to the game by the FA from Stansted airport on Saturday.
Christine, who travelled to Belgium, with her daughter Elizabeth, 16, said the group arrived an hour before kick-off but that it was touch and go whether they would get there.
Thousands of people were left grounded over the weekend when the national air traffic control system in West Drayton, London, crashed at 10am.
It was rebooted at about 1pm on Saturday but left a massive backlog of flights to clear and many fans could not get to the match on time.
Christine went on: "It wasn't too bad for us. We got there about an hour before the match and had some time outside the ground to get souvenirs.
"The game was wonderful and atmosphere absolutely unbelievable. We had a brilliant weekend."
