AT the weekend fourteen players from Bury Croquet Club participated in the North West Federation championships at Southport.
Thirteen clubs were competing in handicap, Short Croquet and Gold Croquet tournaments.
The handicap team had mixed fortunes against opponents of very varied standard and experience, finishing fifth in the category.
The Short Croquet team may have been at a disadvantage in that the format of the matches was not friendly to players of middle handicap, and also wound up in fifth position.
The Gold Croquet team included several of the club's newest members. They acquitted themselves very well in a situation where they needed to learn fast, and notched up quite numerous victories though not featuring in the leaders.
