THE second match in the girls McDonalds League was held recently and with a change of venue from Pendle to Preston, the girls were looking forward to competing on the new, recently-opened track belonging to the University of Lancashire, which is home to Preston Harriers.

The Bury team finished third on the day and lie second overall going into the final event a week on Sunday.

The under-13s were able to field a full team, so ensuring that they picked up points in every event.

In the long jump A Kirsty Morton was first with a leap of 3.89 metres. In the B Amy Chapman cleared 3.48m to finish second.

In the 800 metres A, Natasha McDonald ran a personal best of 2.48mins to finish second in the B event, Laura Little was first in the 75m A, Kirsty Morton was third in the B in 11.1, Laura Morris was fifth in in the 70 metres hurdles A in a time of 13.6. Keeley Bulger came third in the B in 13.05.

Natasha McDonald was second in the 150m A in 16.8 and Amy Chapman came third in the B in 24.8.

Making her debut for Bury Athletic Club, Natalie Edgar came third in the shot A event with a throw of 24.6, she was also third in the B with 5.91m, Laura Little came fourth with 4.98.

In the relay Kirsty Morton, Laura Little, Natasha McDonald and Keeley Bulger came third.

In the under-17 girls section only four were available to run as five girls are away in Woodbury, America representing the town in the athletics event, so each of the four girls were called upon to do the maximum three events and gain vital points for the club.

Katrina Rostron returned to action and ran the 300m in 51.2secs to finish fourth. In the 3000 metres she was second in 12.23mins and in the 300m hurdles, Katrina was second in 57.2.

Samantha Aspin was fifth in the 100m in 14.1secs, 4th in the 200m in 29.6, and fourth in her first-ever attempt at the shot with a throw of 5.5m.

Nicola Bott was second in the 1500m in 5.55mins, she ran the 200 metres and competed in the discus, finishing third with 16.18. Katie Stamp was third in the 800m in 2.41, fourth in the long jump with 3.64m and third in the 300m in a time of 48.5.
