FORMER coal miners in East Lancashire have a last chance to claim compensation for the vibration related disease known as white finger.

The government is compensating many ex-pitmen suffering from the disease caused by the use of heavy and vibrating underground equipment.

Anyone who worked for British Coal after 1975 and who has not already put in a claim is reminded of the September 30 deadline. The Department of Trade and Industry is advising anyone who thinks they may have a claim to consult their union or solicitor without delay.

Those who have already made a claim do not have to take further action.
