EAST Lancashire's first Millennium Volunteer to notch up 200 hours helping others will receive a certificate for her achievement.
Lyndsey Cunliffe, 21, of Oswaldtwistle, joined the Millennium Volunteer scheme for 16- to 24-year-olds earlier this year and has worked at Brook Advisory Centre, Blackburn, and Clayton-le-Moors Youth Centre.
Lyndsey, who became pregnant at 15, has learnt to advise teenagers beginning sexual relationships and helped run workshops about teenage pregnancy.
She turned to volunteering as she could not combine paid work with motherhood. She said: "I wanted to be a role model for my daughter and for my own self-development. Volunteering has changed my life for the better. It has given me confidence and skills."
Lyndsey has received a certificate to mark 100 hours of volunteering by Graham Jones, the chairman of the Blackburn with Darwen's Council for Voluntary Service and will get the 200 hours certificate in September.
