IMRAN Patel kicked out at a passing car, causing nearly £1,000 worth of damage.

Blackburn magistrates heard that the motorist got out of his car and there was a scuffle between the two men.

Patel, 20, of London Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was fined £100 with £70 costs and ordered to pay £400 compensation.

But stipendiary magistrate Jonathon Finestein warned that the car owner would be perfectly entitled to sue through the civil courts for the outstanding compensation.

David Macro, prosecuting, said Mr Ryden was travelling along Whalley New Road and was passing a newsagents when he noticed a young Asian lad stood by a maroon van.

"As he drove past this lad lunged forward and kicked his car," said Mr Macro.

He said Patel was known to Mr Ryden and his passenger.

Oliver Goldman, defending, said Patel did not believe the motorist was driving very sensibly.

"He thought the car was coming towards him, although he realises now that it was not," said Mr Goldman.

"He only kicked the car once and does not accept the compensation claim which is for the replacement of one panel and includes £600 for labour."
