BLACKBURN Rovers exile Simon Grayson wants to end his Ewood nightmare by winning a permanent contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 30-year-old defender began a one-month loan spell with the Owls at the weekend, appearing in their 1-1 draw at Wolves.

And now he intends to prove to Paul Jewell that his future lies at Hillsborough after being frozen out of the picture at Rovers under Graeme Souness.

"It's just nice to feel wanted again," said Grayson.

"For the first time in 10 years it looked as though I wasn't going to be involved on the opening day of the season.

"But, thankfully, Wednesday came in for me and now I want to make it permanent.

"They've got a bit of financial trouble at the moment. "But, initially, it was moreorless agreed between the two clubs that there would be a permanent deal at the end of it.

"And if that happens then that should suit everyone."

The likes of Grayson, Darren Peacock, Keith Gillespie and Billy McKinlay have all been forced to train on their own since Souness told them they were no longer part of his plans.

But now the former Aston Villa full-back can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

"I just got out in the nick of time because if it had gone on much longer it would have started top get frustrating," said Grayson.

"It's not a nice situation when you aren't training with the rest of the squad.

"But there were a few of us involved and we managed to keep our spirits up in the hope that something might get sorted out.

"And, hopefully, now that will happen."

Wednesday's hopes of signing the player could hinge on them selling striker Richard Cresswell, who is currently a target for Preston North End.
