AN early second half strike from Andy Myers gave Bury maximum points from a hard fought contest at Buckley Wells.

The Old Boys were determined not to repeat last week's early mistakes against another side promoted from Division One last season.

Looking more determined and aggressive all across the park they rarely allowed the visitors to settle on the ball and, through the promptings of Tarron and Pringle, Bury began to take a grip of the game.

Yet for all their possession the attacks lacked support and Myers and Riggs usually found themselves outnumbered by a determined Gregs rearguard.

Indeed it was 37 minutes before they tested the 'keeper when Myers forced a full length save with a 20 yard drive.

Bury kept up the pressure and finally broke through after 50 minutes when Myers held off three challenges before driving the ball into the net.

Hudson then made his first save of the game, palming away a dangerous cross that looked to be dipping under the bar.

Finally breaking away from their defensive duties Gregs pushed more men forward and Hudson again tipped over a firm header from a corner.

Myers then almost doubled the lead but his shot came back off the post and Riggs was foiled after a long run took him round the 'keeper but too close to the bye-line.

Deakin then cleared off the line when Hudson was finally beaten and the home 'keeper again frustrated the visitors by blocking a shot with his feet.

Lee and Wilde continued to push forward for Bury but neither side could come up with another goal as defences stood firm to the end.

Goals from Andy Howard (2) and Paul Beesley gave Bury II a share of the points in an entertaining game at Astley Bridge Sladians.
