CLARETS boss Stan Ternent has fond memories of his time as Crystal Palace but will be keen to put one over his former club tomorrow.

Ternent was number two to Steve Coppell at Selhurst Park and helped guide the Eagles to promotion to the top-flight before leaving to take over the manager's job at Hull City in 1989.

The London club has tasted a number of highs and lows both on and off the field since then but with a new owner in mobile telephone mogul Simon Jordan look to be back on an even keel. Alan Smith, who was on the coaching staff when Ternent was there, is back as manager for a second spell and while he has just started a re-building job, Ternent expects a tough welcome back.

He said: "We were very successful at Palace. We had a promotion to the Premiership and went on to better things.

"I have a lot of happy memories from there and I enjoyed it when I was there.

"They are always a tough proposition at Selhurst and I am looking forward to it."

Palace have won just once in the League so far and kept their first clean sheet at Cardiff in mid-week.

They have also gone a couple of games without a goal and have lodged a £3 million bid for Southampton striker James Beattie.

However, Smith's number two Glenn Cockerill isn't overly worried about the situtation going into the game against Burnley when Clinton Morrison and Mikael Forsell, who is on loan from Chelsea, are likely to spearhead the attack.

"If you look at all the games we have played in I can't think of any where we haven't created four or five chances. Blackburn in the first game is maybe the only one," he said.
