THE recent statement from the Council that the proposed circular route around Blackburn centre was mainly on existing roads was incorrect.

Unless the link from Preston New Road to Montague Street goes ahead, which now seems doubtful, it is all on existing roads, some of which do not cope very well with existing levels of traffic.

We are supposed to believe that the bottom of Preston New Road, all one lane of it, will handle all the traffic heading for Chorley and Preston, plus all the traffic using the circular route round town.

They'll be telling us next that there are fairies living in Corporation Park.

The junction from Preston New Road to Montague Street is a tight turn for cars, I suggest that the first time anything longer than a long wheel-base Transit van tries to turn the corner at peak time the whole lot will grind to a halt.

The next problem is the offset junction between Montague Street and King Street, which is inadequate even now and is supposed to lead via what are virtually side streets to an already-stressed junction at Bolton Road.

I can only presume that the council are deliberately trying to drive vehicles and their drivers away from Blackburn.

What comes next? A by-law to the effect that all vehicles within the borough must be preceded by a man, sorry person, with a red flag? though I believe that has been tried before.
