EAST Lancashire people look set to benefit from a new government scheme which aims to help bring new technology to the masses.
Launching the UK Online scheme, Prime Minister Tony Blair said a wave of government funded computer centres in shops, community halls and mobile internet centres would help break down the digital divide between those with access to new technology and those without.
Mr Blair added that within two years everyone would have access to an on-line centre as more than 6,000 are being developed across the UK.
The scheme has already seen state-of-the-art technology installed at Burnley Football Club's Adult Learning Centre which received funding.
The centre is now helping local people to embrace new technology of all types.
Launching the UK On-line scheme Mr Blair said: "The opportunities offered by new technology must not be reserved to a few. It must be made available for all of us."
