Highfield Utd...2
R'dale St Clement...0
HIGHFIELD United have capped another marvellous season by becoming Lancashire Amateur League Champions.
The Bury team kicked off needing just a point to clinch things, but they did it in style, winning 2-0.
However, they did have a few frights against a strong Rochdale St Clements team who for a while looked as though they might spoil the party.
The first half was frantic and good football was at a premium and this seemed to favour the determined visitors.
Highfield's usually strong midfield was non-existent and with nerves frayed the players began arguing between themselves. Three players were yellow-carded and Highfield were lucky to reach the break level and with11 men left on the field.
With the walls of the home side dressing room still shaking from manager Holt's team talk, Highfield came out a different side.
Jackson scored eight minutes into the half, hitting a right foot volley from a Chambers cross past the Rochdale keeper.
With 10 minutes left, Highfield increased their lead Chadwick scoring.
The Rochdale full back was sent off for protesting. He thought it was offisde.
The strike sealed victory and substitutes Davenport and Sawdon replaced Griffiths and Jackson for the final few minutes.
When the referee blew for full time the celebrations began. And quite rightly so. Highfield have now gone from the second division to champions of the Premier League in just three seasons.
Chairman Mick Janicki led the party, opening the first bottle of champagne, and the celebrations continued into the small hours of Sunday morning!
