IT is predicted the turn-out for the coming elections will be poor. People, such as L Lawes (Letters, May 15) who are obviously interested in the town, say they won't be voting. I would ask them to think again.

If we're not happy with our lot, vote for change. It is not a wasted vote, whatever party you vote for.

The present council in Blackburn was stunned at the results of the last local election, but learned nothing. Some of them are trying again in other wards, having been 'rumbled' in the wards they represented.

The voter has the power to put them in or keep them out, so use your vote.

On another subject, I have just written to Jack Straw complaining for the umpteenth time about the abysmal policing in Bank Top, Blackburn, as many other readers no doubt were. I was stunned at the publicity stunt of mounted police patrols put on for the people of the town's Fishmoor Estate.

When we can't get a policeman for love, nor council tax, they are swamped by them. It's the finishing touch to a 'gone mad' town.

However, if we in Ribblesdale Place can have just two of the 13 mounties they will be most welcome -- and we will even throw in a bale of hay for the horses!
